From our Drum Circle to the Bunkhouse, the Dining Pavilion and Shower Houses, from landscaping and clearing in New Camp to general beautification, all have been taken on by Members and guests willing to roll up their sleeves and drip a little sweat, a source of fine memories for many of us. Our old-timers will remember when we brought water into camp in trailers – and always more work on the roads. How things have changed!

In 2019, Members and guests leaned in for an epic build as part of the season-long construction of Rainbow Bridge. It was a long time coming and it was truly magnificent to see the span take shape.

In addition to the year-round labor of the Community of Service, much of this work is done by volunteers, who show up, gear up, and get it done. If you have never worked with a crew before, you will be amazed at the relationships that are formed, and how you come to genuinely know another person in real depth. It is, in fact, a form of spiritual practice.

For the Open House Weekend we keep the schedule loose so people can lend a hand where they feel they best fit. We share much at these weekends, we open our campsites, impromptu potluck meals (dependent on COVID-19 status - use good judgement!), fellowship by our campfires and at the Coffee Dragons. The Sweat Lodge Crew will be hosting Sweat Lodge Ceremony, and possibly offering Lodge Teachings this weekend. And given that Memorial Day is a three-day weekend, we’ll be offering a hot-dog and coleslaw picnic on Sunday, so even if you don’t join-in on the work crews, all are welcome. Perpetual morning coffee is a given, and kids’ hot chocolate too, if we can figure out how to keep them from stealing all the cream!

If you are interested in this event, just call or email the office - 814-784-3080 • This email address is being protected from spambots. There are no charges other than grounds fees for those who are overnight camping, but we do welcome donations.
