Samhain – The Weather!

Samhain at Four Quarters is just under 2 weeks away, and we are eagerly looking at the extended weather forecasts, even though experience has told us time and time again, that this is WAAAAYYYY too early to know anything about the weather! (If you’ve never been to Four Quarters, it is helpful to know that, due to the nature of the landscape here in the Allegheny Plateau, we exist in a sort of “micro-climate” which makes predicting the weather…challenging.)
But having no real information to go on isn’t going to stop me from writing a post about the weather at Samhain today!
I love Autumn weather here at Four Quarters, provided that it’s seasonal…I love cool crisp mornings with a light mist rising from the fields, I love chilly nights, and a good reason to cuddle up with a mug of tea and a good book. Apples. I look forward to the emergence of the “Fall” spices-nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, and that old-time favorite-mace!
Two years ago, the weather at Samhain was a total disappointment to me! It was HOT! We did midnight ritual in the Stone Circle in shorts-it was THAT hot. Last year was perfect! Just chilly enough that everyone had rosy cheeks, and you could see your breath just a little while waiting for that magic midnight hour to start ceremony.
And it looks like we are in for another Samhain featuring days in the low to mid-60’s, nights in the low to mid 40’s, and only a teeny chance of the dreaded “R” word!
So, pack warm, be grateful for the new central heating in the Dorm and the Loft, and, if it sounds too chilly for tent camping, we still have just a few bunks left in the Dorm in camp, but call early, I expect they will sell out by the middle of this week! (814) 784-3080 to reserve yours!
So pack your polar fleece for the evenings, be prepared for some delicious food and great company-both are included in the price of your registration, as is tent camping.
