Hi Aase, being a Buddhist, I would define "Bardo" as a 'State of consciousness'. We're in one now! fox |

Aase, I have always found that google is my friend... To wit, from About.com The Tibetan word bardo means "in-between state." The word is commonly used to mean a state between death and rebirth. However, the Bardo Thodol -- "Liberation through Hearing in the Intermediate State," known in English as "The Tibetan Book of the Dead," describes six kinds of bardo. Three are associated with life: 1. The bardo of birth 2. The bardo of dreams 3. The bardo of meditation These three are the states from death to rebirth: 1. The bardo of the moment of death 2. The bardo of supreme reality 3. The bardo of becoming. The Bardo Thodol describes a dissolution of the ego created by the skandhas and a falling away of external reality. The consciousness that remains experiences the true nature of the mind. If the consciousness identifies this true nature, next there will be great clarity and luminosity represented in the Bardo Thodol by several wrathful and peaceful deities. These deities are projections of the consciousness. If the consciousness fails to recognize and understand these experiences, the bardo of becoming begins, leading to rebirth. Evans-Wentz translation... and "placebo medici" is a good description of Billy as well :-) Roger |

Hi Roger! I do know the Bardo of which you speak, and he is fabulosity. Water, placebo medici... i mean remedy, etcetera. A huge inspiration for my silly playful fire circle side. Bardo is a who indeed, and a whoot too. But it has recently come to my attention that BARDO is also a what. Based on the contexts in which i've come across the word i'm thinking either hindu or buddhist in origin, and adopted or adapted by fire circle alchemy - and i'm usually pretty good at reverse engineering what a term means from the contexts in which it's employed, but this one has me beat! "My name is Bobadilla Brown, and the mackerel on my hat is immortal." Ask your doctor if FractalAir is right for you!

Aase, I may be mistaken but I believe that the Bardo you're seeing is not a what but a who... Namely one each Billy Bardo, drummer, story teller and all around neat guy... In fact the last ten lines of your post sounds very much like something that would come out of Billy's mouth... Roger |

Starting this thread for questions and answers about all those huge words that come up in alchemical fire circles. And starting with two of the words i've heard a lot but don't know what mean exactly: BARDO and LEMNISCATE I know that lemniscate is the same shape as the infinity symbol and how that hand gesture gets used across the fire and between people to help take in good energy and send out good energy and stuff, but what does the word mean exactly, what's the source of the word, and why call it a lemniscate rather than a figure 8 or infinity symbol? And what IS bardo??? If anyone knows, please share! I'll poke around for some answers on the net too, see what i can find... Aase PS... The lemniscate is a figure eight that will elevate your energetic state and make you feel great And if i imitate your lemniscate we can celebrate and communicate Wouldn't that be great? "My name is Bobadilla Brown, and the mackerel on my hat is immortal." Ask your doctor if FractalAir is right for you!
