Did you know it is almost always 15 degrees cooler
by our river than it is in the city? Shady too.

One of Four Quarters’ best kept secrets, Drum and Splash is simply a Very Good Time, and a great way to Celebrate an Alternative Nation’s Birthday with Family, Friends and Tribe.
Five Days with no agenda other than to Drum, Swim and Play, sharing with each other and our Masters of the Drum for Teaching and Performance.
And sharing a working vision of the possible through Spiritual Community, Ecological Sustainability and Personal Responsibility.

Over the years we have developed an alternative idea of community and of the greatness of our great nation. A modern day American Tribe of flourishing diversity and tolerance.
A community that values family in all of its flavors; and supports the personal choices of each individual.
Where, for a time, we can return to our human roots and take simple pleasure in simple things.
Song, Dance and the making of beauty.
    A swim in the river.
    The laughter of children.
Sharing a meal under an oak tree.

For these are the things that are
    worth keeping close,
    and worth celebrating
    on this, our nations birthday.
A birthday party for all of us, every one!

            Drum and Splash!

Preparing for the Dragon Mask Procession, Saturday Night.

Daughter and Dad
in The Hemlock Hole

Drum and Splash is all about the Drum, Dance and the River; but it is much more too. Because the Drum builds Community in a way that has to be experienced.
You do not need to be a drummer to Drum and Splash. Don't even need a drum. Your hands and feet will take care of the rest.
Because for five days we create a village along the river, with lots to do...

::   Drum Circle every night    From Wednesday through Sunday night we hold Drum Circle in the Four Quarters tradition. Encouraging drum and dance at all levels of accomplishment. Alcohol and tobacco free within the circle. Open for the little children during the early hours. Late night magic until dawn.
::   The Land is solace itself, listed as the most valuable and ecologically diverse tract of land in Bedford County by the Western Pennsylvania Nature Conservancy. The Hemlock Hole is a spectacular natural swimming area, shadowed by our cliffs.
::   A separate track of workshops and presentations dealing with issues of Peak Oil, Global Sustainability, Ecology, Personal Spirituality and Living in Mindfulness of our Choices.

Drumming workshop down by The River

::   Our Merchants Green is a village within a village. Find out where those wonderful clothes come from. Have your drum tuned. Pick up a Pita Pocket and cold Smoothie at the Starvin' Artist mini Cafe.
::   Masters Performances in the Upper Drum Circle at sundown every night. Children hold the place of honor here. And as the night deepens and the kids fall asleep, the serious drumming begins. And even later in the night, Pure Magic!
::  The Coffee Dragons! Early morning through late at night serving free coffee, tea and cacao from their pavilion on the High Meadow. Sit for a spell. Play a guitar. Take a nap. More coffee?
::  Four Quarters at The Movies    Art and Current Affairs films showing daily.

:: Kid's Tribe!    Down in The North Crook is kid's central, with lots of free crafts workshops every day and Ken Crampton's Creation Station. Its for grown ups too, don't be bashful!
::  Members Neighborhood Ice Cream Social and Potluck Backyard Block Party   Saturday afternoon our Members invite you to stroll down to the cool of the Hemlock Hole, and join them for an old-fashioned Ice Cream Social and Backyard Block Party. Our Members will be hosting this potluck, as a welcome home to our non-member guests. So come on by, bring a dish if you can, but do join us down by the river for ice cream, food and fun.
(Refrigeration for your potluck contribution will be available at The Starvin' Artist Cafe)

::   The Masters Classes. In addition to our regular free workshops, our Master Teachers offer intensive fee paid workshops for the serious drummer and dancer. These intensive are $15, all of which goes to your teacher. Show your support for their work and attend their Masters Classes.
::    Fire Spinning Intensive    Got Fire? Want to learn how, polish your skills, or help plan and take part in the Dragon Mask Procession Saturday evening? Attend the Fire Spinning Intensive.

                   Saturday Night Barn Burning BlowOut

::   Fireworks    The evening begins with fireworks, and because we are a non-profit we have legal access to some really nice displays. This has become a point of pride for Drum and Splash, and we are extravagant. Prepare to be wowed!
::   The Dragon Mask Procession    Our Chinese Fire Dragon emerges from The Portal of Fire, escorted by our Drummers, Dancers and Fire Artists. More rockets and firecrackers; sparklers for all, and do come with your finery and masks to escort the Fire Dragon home. It's your parade!
And trust us, there will be a surprise!
::   Masters Performance - A Drum Circle to the Stars   We light the fuse and watch it soar, led by "Djembe Folalu" and our Master Teachers in a stunning display of African Drum and Dance. Then Circle opens up for A Drum Circle to the Stars!
::   The MidNight Masquerade    In the wee hours a transformation occurs. Down along the river in the Lower Drum Circle the pixies have been at work. We can't tell you more, so be there.

Our Energy Builds from Wednesday Night with First Fire Circle leading into a Thursday and Friday filled with Workshops, Play and Performance. The River waits cool and inviting, Saturday’s Masters Classes prepare us for the Fireworks that will light up the Sky as our Chinese Drum Dragon does his Dance, leading the way to a Fire Circle that will pulse to your rhythm.

An Evening to Remember... A Drum Circle to the Stars!

  About Fire Circle

Since our beginning fourteen years ago there has been a Drum Circle at Four Quarters. And as the years have gone by, we have learned and grown, and our experience of Fire, Drum and Dance has grown too.
We have come to understand that Fire Circle is Sacred Space, just as is the Circle of our Full Moon Services in the Stone Circle. If we go about creating this space in a good way, we make a place of respect and of safety. Where the Drum supports the Dancers, where the Dancers feed the Fire and the Fire feeds us all. And inside this candlelit Circle real magic can and does happen, we can step out of the ordinary and into ourselves.
Fire Circle at Four Quarters is the beating heart of our community, something precious that glows the brighter as it is shared.

We hope you will join us as we ride the Spirit of the Drum.
