The Body Tribal

Embracing the Tribal, Back to the Primitive

Friday Aug 1st - Sun Aug 3rd, 2008

Our Perception of Our Bodies and Each Other as Temple and Tool for the Exploration of Spirit in Ritual.

Tattoo, Costume, Image,
Attitude, Paint, Ceremony,
Piercing, Drum and Dance,
Adornment and Ritual.

No one lives forever. While we're here, though, we are possessed of a powerful instrument of expression and exploration. We have meat and bone a machine inherently bound to the mind and spirit to form the self. Through it - this versatile tool, broadcaster, weapon, symbol, toy and temple called Body - we experience the ephemera of soul and thought in ourselves and coax them together into a matrix called Tribe. Enjoy it while you can.

You can't change fate. You can change you. These ideas, primitive and modern, spin and chase one another in our annual celebration of devotion to the malleable real as path to the unreal. In ceremony private and tribal, friends returning and new, come and take part in ever-deeper sacred acts of transformation, mental - physical - spiritual modification and experience.

Imagine darkness so intense and so complete covering you like a velvet blanket. A blackness that cuts you off from the everyday world, forcing you to draw deep into yourself, a blackness that makes you see with your heart instead of your eyes. You can't see, but your eyes seem open. You are isolated, but you know you are united with all living things. And out of darkness comes the roaring of the drums, the sound of the prayers. And among these sounds your ears catch the voices of the spirits, ghostlike, whispering to you from unseen lips. You feel the wings of birds brushing your face; feel the light touch of a feather on your skin. And always you hear the throbbing drums filling the empty space inside yourself, making you forget things that clutter your mind, making your body sway to their rhythm.

In Between the Drums and the Darkness
lies The Body Tribal.

Ceremonials and Schedule 2008
Please join the discussion on our Forum. We need volunteers to help with setting up and breaking down of each event.

Friday, August 1

Afternoon-9:00 PM Arrivals. Get unpacked and settled. Eat and drink water heartily for the night will be long.

9:30 PM-12:00 -- Shapeshifters' Ball at Fire Circle
The First major ceremonial of the weekend. Join us in an amazing dance party of wonder dressed as your most fabulous self. Bring dress up clothes to share and give away at Em's KaliMart with Black Light Specials. Feel free to enter the Hall of Mirrors and engage in your own transformation. How will you shift your shape? This is an experiential ceremony, so come prepared to throw you into an experience like no other. Together, we will divine, dress up, dance, and explore our roles in a social setting. Bring a costume/clothing to share, and personal snacks and beverages for you to indulge in. If you cannot arrive by 9:30, the Ball runs till midnight, just show up when you are able!

Midnight onward -- Tribal Stomp
Old-timers know it, first-timers love it. The great tribal dance - dance skills truly are not required. Believe us.
The rest of the night, the DJ’s will segue way out of trance/electronica/party music into a heapin helping of crunchy percussion, dance and tribal celebration.

Saturday, August 2

10:00 AM-12:30 PM -- Pack A Lunch Brunch at the Kitchen Pavilion
Attendance at Saturday Main Ceremony requires being present at the briefing that occurs now. Bring your own brown bag lunch and beverage and break bread with your tribe. Come learn about the body modification experience. Take time to touch base for the day and get ready for what comes next..

12:30 PM-3:30 PM -- The Altars of Challenge in North Crook
Come play with us! A way of interacting with our bodies as temple. Individual and group games of cunning, strength, and skill. A space for sparring, wrestling, resistance combat (two people stand on one foot, the longer stander wins, etc), Munchkin, chess, checkers, and water volley ball, …(drum roll…) …and finally, the most ancient and challenging gladiatorial rite…the game that calls to our deepest tribal memories, a personal challenge for the tribe… DODGE BALL! If you don’t feel you can join the play, cheerleaders are needed, as well.
What you need to bring to The Altars of Challenge
White T-Shirt; The card with string you received Friday night; Water, Snacks, Fruit for yourself.

3:30 -- Cleansing
Come join us at the Down and Dirty Purification Station located at Fairy Cairn. We have played, becoming sweaty, and dirty now enjoy a healthy Spiritual Cleansing by taking a dip in the creek, or receiving a smudging, and or fairy fluffing. Then move onward to one of the finest amenities at Four Quarters- The Tower of Power Temple of Shower!

4:30-9:30 PM -- The Pause
A time to rest, reflect, connect, dress.. just be.. Eat and drink water heartily for the night will be long. The planners respectfully ask that everyone respect the preparations going on in the Stone Circle and Fire Circle and that folks not wander through there from now 'til the beginning of ceremony.

9:15 PM -- At the Pealing of the Bell, take a moment, stop where you are and think before moving to the Drum Circle. When you are called to move, do so with great intent, and reflection.

9:30 PM -- Main Ceremony
Experience the Mystery and Make your Mark on Community. Be prepared to face new challenges, both individually, and as a tribe as we journey between the Worlds to meet the Spirits of the Community, a journey of trance and awakening, a journey of flesh and spirit, a journey of individual and tribe. Welcome to the "Caldron of Transformation".
Please bring any water + snacks you may desire for the night.

11:30 PM - onward -- Drum Circle Four Quarters home style, grown fresh on the land, not out of a can.

Sunday, August 3
